When my friend came over today we had a nagashi somen party! Nagashi somen is a common summer food in Japan. Often you eat it at a bbq or at a camp. What you do is you get a long hollowed out bamboo and make into a trough. Then you send some water down it and then somen noodles. People line up along the trough and catch somen as it goes by and eat it. Recently, they have these nagashi somen machines that push water around a trough and then you can catch somen as it goes by from the comfort and coolness of your own living room. I had a great time. I was really good at catching the noodles and I ate a lot. I mean so much that my friend’s mom looked a little concerned with how much I was eating. I could I not eat it. Not only is it yummy, but how often are you actually encouraged to play with your food?
For dessert we had some fruit jellies go floating around. It was a very nice and cool sweet dessert!
