Bedtime bundle

When I go to bed, I like to bring my bedtime bundle with me: doggy, ambulance, helicopter, and water mug. Mommy and Daddy offer to carry some of it for me, but I insist on carrying it all by myself. They are quite surprised that I have any room left in my crib to sleep, but I manage. But it is not easy.

After school with a twist

When Mommy picks me up from school, I’m always happy to see her and in a very good mood. I get me things, put on my shoes on my own, and then off we go. All of last year I was carried to and from school in my baby carrier and now I walk to and from school. I’ve grown up a lot. Just as I did when carried, I’m looking all around and observing the world on our walk home. The biggest difference is that I have a bit more fun since I’m free to walk and move on my own. Today I decided to put a bit of a “twist” (kune kune) on our walk home.

School walk

I really enjoy walking on our school walks! I am properly holding onto our handles with one hand like everyone else does. I enjoying running around the park when we get there. I still love looking for cars, buses and airplanes, but I’m joining my classmates in their play more and more. There is a lot more interaction between us all as we get older.

Eating dinner and clearing the table

After I eat, I’m a good boy and bring my dishes to the sink. I’ve been doing this for several weeks now and it is just a part of my mealtime routine. I’m usually pretty good about carrying everything, but sometimes I drop some food or utensils. It is hard to balance the plates and bowls sometimes. The funny thing is that when I do my exercises and stretches with Daddy, he says “balance” when we stand on one leg. So when Mommy tells me to “balance” the dishes as not to spill, I get confused and try to bring the dishes to the sink whilst standing on one leg. Yes, it is as difficult as it sounds.

Taking care of younger kids

Now that I’m an upperclassman, I feel that it is my job to take care of the younger kids. I was very interested in the young kids’ class and my teacher noticed that I was watching them. She asked if I wanted to go over and say I and I quickly went over and patted each and every one of the younger kids gently on the head, as if to say, “It’s okay, Mason is here.”

New school year

Today is the first day of the new school year and my morning schedule has changed a bit. First of all, I am leaving for school earlier than the past few months. Also, Mommy and Daddy are both taking me to school now. Mommy changed jobs so that she can have better hours and be closer to home. Coincidentally, Mommy and Daddy both take the same subway into the city, so they can both drop me off at nursery school and head to work.

This year I’m in the Sora-gumi (Sky Class) for one-year-olds turning two. I’m very excited about being in the older class. That means we’ll have a class of babies below us. I’m surprisingly interested in taking care of little babies.

I’m such a big boy now. I walk to school, press the elevator buttons on my own, take my shoes off and put them away, and ring the door bell. A year ago when I was just starting school I saw the older kids do the same thing and was very impressed. I wondered if I would ever be able do the same. I guess this answers my question.

Haircut without fuss

Daddy cut my hair today. In the past I cried, struggled, and basically did not like getting my haircut. But Daddy explained what he was going to do and said that I had a special dessert that I could eat while he cut my hair and I could watch kids’ shows on YouTube while he did it. I thought that sounded reasonable. I even let him put the hair cape on me so that I wouldn’t get hair all over me.

I sat still and let Daddy cut my hair while Mommy fed me my orange gelatin dessert. I did not cry or fuss at all. It looks like I’m growing up and accepting a lot more things that I disliked before. The nice thing is that Daddy is getting more comfortable and faster at cutting my hair so he was done before I finished my dessert.

So after he cleaned me up a bit, I could sit down and eat my dessert on my own.

I already feel a lot cooler with less hair on my head. With the recent warm weather this is the right haircut for the season.

Shu-shu po-po

I had a short nap on the ride home in the car, but it was enough to reenergize me. I was very active when we got home and led Mommy and Daddy in a “shu-shu po-po” chant. That’s the sound of a locomotive or choo-choo train. I had some other stuff to say, but not much of it made sense. I was just full of energy and had to express it somehow.

Hanami at Umi no Nakamichi

We got to the park and I was ready to go see some cherry blossoms and have a picnic! But first I wanted to check out some trees, grass, and flowers in the parking lot. That’s just what I do.

We were happy to find that the cherry blossoms were in full bloom! So pretty and pink! I indulged Mommy and took a bunch of pictures, but all I really wanted was to eat lunch!

Okay, pictures done. Lunch time! I had Spam musubi for the first time and loved it! Actually, since it was my first time eating Spam, that was all I wanted. So after a while I picked out the Spam and just ate it by itself.

After I ate my fill I wanted to wander around the cherry blossoms.

There was a huge playground at the park so we went there as well and I had a lot of fun exploring!

I had a great time seeing the cherry blossoms, eating Spam musubi at our picnic, walking among the sakura, and playing at the playground. It was a very fun day out! I hope we can do it again!

Getting ready to go to Umi no Nakamichi

We had made plans to go to a big park to do hanami, cherry blossom viewing, this weekend if the weather was nice. And it turns out that the weather was perfect! I know we just did hanami yesterday, but this is a special park. This is where Mommy and Daddy had their last mini-getaway, just the two of them, when Mommy was pregnant with me. Well, I guess, technically, I was there to. Anyway, they took photos of Mommy’s belly with sakura trees in the background and last year the three of us went back and took a family photo in front of the same trees. So, we decided to go again.

Mommy and Daddy were busy getting everything together, and I was getting a bit underfoot, so Daddy let me play with my Anpanman app on the iPad. So I helped Mommy and Daddy get ready by not getting in their way. I just sat there playing with the iPad until it was time to go.

When it was time, I obediently put the iPad away and got my stuff ready.

I had tried to get my shoes on by myself, but I still need some help. I’ve seen Daddy use a shoehorn, so I tried to use it, but it did not make anything easier.

Then I thought I may as well just slip on some larger shoes, so I tried on Daddy’s shoes. They were a little too big.

Eventually, Daddy helped me get my shoes on and I was ready to go. Off to Umi no Nakamichi!
