I have a couple of hours in the morning before I go to school, so I spend it learning and exploring. The kids show in the morning are very interesting and educational. I learn about practical things like how to cook, and deeper lessons like how to be a good friend. I don’t sit and veg while watching, but every so often I’ll stop what I’m doing to watch a particularly interesting part of the show.
I also spend my morning playing with my toys and exploring. I had fun playing with the door and tried to understand the mechanism that makes it swing open and close. I also raided the shelf looking for a stash of food. I didn’t find anything…this time.
I’m such a big boy now that I can take baths alone! Of course, someone is bathing me, but I’m the only one in the tub. I don’t like to sit down during my baths, so it is more like a shower. I stand and play with my toys as I’m shampooed and washed. Mommy and Daddy were worried that using the shower to rinse the shampoo out of my hair might be difficult and sting my eyes, but it is not a problem. These thick eyebrows and luscious lashes of mine keep the water away and out of my eyes. So now Mommy and Daddy feel a lot more confident with just turning the shower on me and letting the shampoo run off. It doesn’t get in my eyes and doesn’t bother me at all.
I’m 11 months old today! Getting very close to 1 year! Where did the time go? I can’t believe how quickly it flew by.
Besides just getting bigger, I’m really developing a lot. Grandma and Grandpa say that when they chat with me every week they see that I have learned something new. This last month, most of my accomplishments have been on a small scale but are big steps for me. What I mean is that I’m getting very good at using my tiny little fingers. Having tackled crawling, standing, and other big macro movements, this month I focused on micro movements. I’m very good at grabbing even the smallest things. If a grain of rice spill onto my table then my little fingers can deftly pick it up and put it in my mouth. I’m also very good at grabbing objects and clacking them together. I’m good at opening zippers on bags and I understand how buckles work. I’m trying to figure out how to unlock cabinet locks and all these other childproofing things that are inhibiting my fun.
Perhaps my favorite new skill is pointing. I can now express my wants and needs with finger pointing. I point at the food that I want, the place I want to go, the thing I want to see, or even things that I notice that I want others to look at. I’ve become very aware of the world around me and my head is now always on a swivel and my fingers shoot out pointing at things I know or things that are new. Yes, that means I’m literally pointing at everything.
Still no words coming out of my mouth, but a lot of expressive sounds. Daddy says that sometimes he feels like he is being cursed out in a foreign language. I don’t intend it to sound that way. I’m just a very emphatic speaker. Even without words, Mommy and Daddy are getting pretty good at understanding what I’m trying to say by my tone. The are become adept listeners of Masonese.
Well, I’ve come a very far way in 11 months. Who knows what I’ll accomplish by the time I’m 1 year old. From then, we will starting counting my age in years instead of months. And I will get even bigger and bigger. It is all very exciting! Thank you all for joining me on this journey…but we’re just getting started!
I pick my nose a lot these days. I have to admit that it is pretty gross. I can my whole first knuckle up in there. And more often than not, that nose picking finger ends up in my mouth. I know, gross, yeah?
At one time, Mommy and Daddy used all these cushions to stop me from climbing on the couch. Now I am using said cushions against them. I discovered that I can step on the cushions to gain an extra few inches in my reach and then grab onto the counter.
I still try to get my hands on Daddy’s video game controller. It is fun to manipulate even when the game console is not on. I’m just getting used to the controller and then one day I’ll be able to play video games with Daddy!
I’m not a fan of riding in my stroller these days, but I am interested in the stroller overall. So sometimes when passing by the entrance, I decide to go check on the stroller. To do that I first have to manage stepping down into the entrance way. Careful and cautious. Not bad.
