10 months old

I’m 10 months old today! I’m getting really close to turning 1 year old. I feel like the last two milestones for me to reach before turning 1 year old are standing on my own and walking. I’ve already accomplished most of my other first year goals.

Obviously I’m doing really well eating solid foods. I enjoy eating and am a good healthy size for a 10 month old.

I sleep quite well at night. My sleep training paid off and I can be put down in my crib and I’ll fall asleep on my own without any crying or tears. Even when I wake up in the middle of the night, I usually put myself back to sleep if I’m not waking up for a bottle. Impressive, yeah?

I can pull myself up to standing with ease and I can even slowly lower myself back down with control. Before, when I wanted to get back down to the floor I would just plop down. Now I do a slow squat to the floor.

I’m climbing everything in sight with skill and speed. This has caused a lot of problems for Mommy and Daddy who always have to watch me to keep me safe. I have no fear and even made a game climbing onto the couch and then rolling off into Daddy’s arms. Luckily, I know to only do that when someone is there to catch me.

I’m not talking yet, but I make a lot of sounds and do it at the right moments to create a conversation. My tone is usually correct, so all I need to do is get some vocabulary.

My listening skills and understanding is quite good. I often respond or act appropriately to what Mommy and Daddy say. The thing I picked up quickly is when they ask me if I’m hungry or if they tell me it is time to eat. When I hear that it is meal time I make my way over to my chair ready to be fed.

So, I’m growing up at a nice pace and am getting ready to enter toddler-hood. I’m working on the standing on my own and walking, so stay tuned.

Picking up lunch

Mommy and Daddy picked up their lunch at a bento place on the way back from the park. It was a small place, so Daddy and I waited outside while Mommy waited inside for their food. I was very well behaved and waited patiently. But I had Mommy entertaining me from inside through the window. If people walked by and saw her without noticing me they might of thought she was nuts. It thought she was super funny!

At the park (in shoes)

Now that I’m so much more mobile at the park, Mommy and Daddy decided to put some shoes on me whenever we go there. I’m not walking in them, but it is a good chance for me to get used to wearing them. I don’t mind them too much. They don’t help much, nor do they get in the way. They’re alright.

I had fun on the slide at the park, but then I got distracted by all the things on the ground. The park is nice because there are a lot more things to explore down at my level.

Shungiku, shimeji, and enoki

I tried shungiku, shimeji, and enoki today. I think I liked them. They were all mixed together so I’m not sure which flavor went with which food. Either way, I ate everything and was pretty happy with the flavor. The shungiku is a vegetable and the shimeji and enoki are mushrooms. I’ve seen Mommy and Daddy eat the mushrooms a lot. They are kind of the standard mushrooms to have in Japan and can be found in many dishes. I think I’ll look forward to eating them more in the future.

Tuna

I tried tuna today. It was pretty good. It had good flavor and was really easy to eat. I didn’t even have to chew on it very much. Mommy dropped the first bite, but not to worry. I picked it up and ate it. Nowadays, when any food falls onto my table I always find it and then it finds its way into my mouth.

At the park with Mommy

Mommy and I went to the park today! The weather was really nice and I had a great time crawling around on the grass. I’m getting really good at proper crawling on all fours. I have to admit that it is quite useful on rough terrain like grass. My usual army crawl is a lot harder and slower on the grass.

Wipes on head

Daddy was having fun with me this morning. I like playing with Daddy a lot, but sometimes I play so well by myself that he just let’s me do my thing and watches me. But sometimes he wants to do more than just watch me so I has fun with me. Take today, for instance, when he started to pile (dried out) wipes on my head. I was so into my playing that I didn’t really notice. When Daddy told Mommy about this she couldn’t believe that he could do that without me noticing, so he demonstrated it for Mommy later in the day.

I did notice it after a while, but it didn’t bother me. I just took it off and kept on playing.

Active at Sukusuku Hiroba

We went to Sukusuku Hiroba today. There were a lot of babies and toddlers who were there for the first time, so they were more hesitant and held back a bit. I did not hold back at all. I am very comfortable at the community play group and I quickly wandered off on my own to play with toys and to greet the newcomers. Mommy and Daddy gave me my space and only came to get me when I started to play with others by trying to grab their faces. I still have to work on understanding proper etiquette when playing.

Overall, I was very active. I crawled around a lot and explored. I played with almost all the toys and that means I put nearly every piece in my mouth. The helpers were very impressed with how outgoing I have become. They still remember when I first showed up and was too little or too shy to do anything. Now I wander over to play with kids, their parents, and the helpers without any hesitation. I’m really growing up at Sukusuku Hiroba.

Cushion blocker ineffective

Those cushions that blocked me from getting to the things on the shelf behind the couch are now ineffective. I figured out that I can just pull the cushions down to explore behind them. Mommy and Daddy still try and stop me from getting to those things, especially with all the cables back there, but I overpower them. Look how I dominated Daddy and flaunt my success in front of him.

Crawl and roll

I started doing this weird thing today when after crawling for a stretch I would finish off with a roll. I don’t know why I started this. No one taught me how to do this. I it just seemed like fun. Mommy and Daddy got a kick out of it and kept trying to get me to do it again and again.

But before long I got tired and just needed a break.

Playing with my toys

I don’t spend my entire day crawling around the house. I also stay stationary (for a little bit) and play with my toys. They keep getting put away at the end of the day so I always have to dig into my toy box and get them out again. Sometimes I just toss them aside until they become interesting again.

Mobile chat with Grandma and Grandpa

During my weekly chat with Grandma and Grandpa, I was all over the place. I wanted to show them how fast I could crawl and all the different places I like to visit around the house. They were very impressed with my speed and sense of adventure. They also got an idea of how hard it is for Mommy and Daddy to keep track of me, keep up with me, and keep me out of trouble.
