I had two new foods today. The first was peas. I like my vegetables a lot, but the peas were a bit odd at first. I think it is because they are not as soft as the other vegetables I’ve had. They were mushed up quite well, but they still had a different texture. That’s a good thing. My solids are slowly getting to be more solid. Even my okayu, or rice porridge, is less watery and the rice grains are more recognizable. I’m slowly working my way up from purees and pastes to less mushy states of food.
I also tried some oatmeal mixed with formula. It was okay. It has less flavor than other grains that I’ve eaten, but not bad. I think it will help me feel full faster.
I tried some katsuo bushi today. They are fish flakes. No, not fish food…well, actually, yeah, they are kind of like large fish food flakes for humans. They are dried bonito that are shaved really thin with a wood plane. They end up being very light and flavorful. You can often find them dancing on okonomiyaki or takoyaki from the heat of the food. They are also used to make dashi. I tried some sprinkled on my rice and they were different. Quite flavorful, but a new texture for me. I wasn’t too fond of it at the beginning but ended up liking it more when Daddy mixed the flakes into my rice.
I am very aware of where everyone it and watch their movements carefully. So when Mommy or Daddy leave the room, I take notice. I take notice and voice my complaints if they both leave the room at the same time.
So I saw Mommy leave the living room and tried to follow her, but was blocked by the barrier (mobile) and just had to stay there and wait for her to come back. I was so happy when she did!
It’s nice to be able to sit up on my own now. It makes it so much easier to play with my toys. I can move my arms and hands much more freely which means I can try to eat many more things! Awesome!
*Just to be absolutely clear, I did not get the iPad for Christmas. I got this awesome Anpanman steering wheel. The iPad is just there to help my visualize driving.
Except for all that crying because of the surprise visitor, we really had fun at our Christmas party. We wish we could have spent Christmas with ALL of our loved ones around the world! We hope everyone had safe and happy Christmas! We are sending all our love and best wishes to everyone! Merry Christmas to all!
It is Christmas day! I am so happy! There has been all this hype about this day for over a month and I got really excited! It is my first Christmas!
We were hoping to be able to spend my first Christmas in Hawaii with Grandma and Grandpa, but the strict travel restrictions due to the pandemic made that impossible. It is too bad, but we want everyone to be safe and healthy, so we are willing to do our part to bring this pandemic to an end.
We spent my first Christmas in Japan. Baaba (grandma) and Obachan (aunt) came over to our place to celebrate with us. It was really nice and I enjoy their visits. Then we had a surprise visitor. Well, I was surprised. Everyone seemed to know that he was coming. Yep, that guy. The jolly man in red. The list maker. The bearded bringer of gifts. Santa.
I heard about him and was prepared for him. I was excited about the gifts he was bringing. I thought he was supposed to sneak in and leave my gift under the tree when I was sleeping. I mean, even the Amazon delivery people just drop gifts off. But it seems like he knew it was my first Christmas and wanted to make a hand delivery. To be honest, I could have done without it. Nothing could have prepared me for a visit from Santa. I was shocked. When he entered the room I just froze there, staring at him for a moment, my toy dropping from my hand, before I rushed over to Mommy for safety. For some reason Daddy wasn’t there. Just when I needed him the most! Well, you can guess what happened next. Actually, you don’t have to guess. Check out the videos!
I was traumatized! And the worst thing was that everyone else seemed to be enjoying the situation. This will be my first and last Santa visit if I have anything to say about it. What about this season is “jolly”? Look at my face? Nothing jolly there.
Well, even though it wasn’t a happy experience, I should say thank you to Santa Claus. After all, he took time out of his busy schedule to hand deliver my present to me. I really appreciate it. Thank you Santa!
But next time you don’t have to trouble yourself. Feel free to leave the gift under the tree. We don’t need another scene like this:
I had a little bit of hijiki today. It was mixed in with the rest of my food, so I don’t think I really tasted it. I guess that’s fine. I ate it up without any second thought.
