I’m getting bigger and more active, so that means that I get hungrier quicker. So I get to have little healthy snacks to hold me over to my next meal. Today I had a couple of rice crackers. I’m such big boy now that I didn’t need to be fed. I was able to eat it all by myself. I also ate it while sitting down. Don’t I look all grown up?
I got a gift today! It is my very first Christmas ornament. Grandma and Grandpa sent it all the way over to me. I was so happy! It is so cute! (And does not taste very good.). I will put it on the tree the first chance I get. Thank you, Grandma and Grandpa!
Hey, did you notice anything in the last post where I was eating the Japanese pear? Did I look like a very famous spokesbaby? Do you see any resemblance? Or is it just me.
Gerber, if you are reading this, please contact my agent. I will work for food!
When I crawl around on the floor, these are a few of my favorite things: my cups, new places to explore, bags of stuff, being under tables, and Daddy’s bedroom slippers.
My adventures in new foods is continuing. I had cucumbers and satoimo (taro root) today. I can’t say I enjoyed the cucumber. It was a bit bitter and harder than the other foods I have had. It was bit hard to swallow. It almost got caught in my throat but I managed to get it down and keep it down. And then I finished off the rest of it with no problem. There is still nothing I won’t eat.
The satoimo was quite nice. It is naturally on the soft side and when cooked gets very mushy, just the way I like it. I’ve been enjoying all the starchy food that I’ve tried.
I have weird habits at different times. When I pick up things my pinkies stick out. When I sneeze it is usually in twos. When I have my bottle my big toes are always lower than my other toes. Why? I don’t really know.
It looks like Santa came early and left a gift under the Christmas tree: it’s me, Mason! I shuffle over to the tree every day and try to reach the ornaments. Sometimes I get them, sometimes I’m stopped from getting them. But I make an attempt every day.
Mommy and Daddy stop me from pulling on the ornaments out of fear that I’m going to topple the entire thing over on myself. (Foreshadowing!)
It was getting tiring for Daddy to keep chasing me around the house, (he is 43 years old), so he came up with a “game” for me where I sit in a laundry basket and…I think that’s it. I just sit in a basket and Daddy doesn’t have to chase after me.
Not as active, but still a lot of fun. We chatted and sang songs, and Daddy made the basket move around like a theme park ride!
One of my snacks are these baby ball biscuits that are very common in Japan. They are quite tiny, about a centimeter across, and dissolve very easily, so it is the perfect snack food for babies. They are great snacks, but are not as easy to eat as my rice crackers. I can hold onto the rice cracker on my own and nibble at it until there is only a mushy little piece in my hand. But picking up the tiny baby ball biscuits and putting them in my mouth is a lot harder. Babies my age are just picking up the pincer move with index finger and thumb. Up till now I’ve mainly grabbed things with my hold hand, so an intricate pincer move is quite difficult and a bit frustrating. I want someone to just feed it to me!
Now with my power of army crawling I’m exploring a lot, and very quickly. I shuffle off so quickly that Mommy and Daddy are having trouble keeping me out of trouble. Apparently there places that I can explore and places that I can’t, things that I can touch and things that I can’t. I guess my job is figure the difference between those places and things by trial and error.
We went for a walk to the park today. I still can’t do much at the park. I watch the other older kids run around on the playground and I can’t wait until I can do that. But I was quite content sitting on the bench with Mommy and Daddy and taking in the view. They brought a little snack for me, so that made me happy too! You can see a bit of it in my mouth in a picture below and it looks like I have teeth. (One tooth is actually peeking out a bit, but you can’t see it yet.)
I got to practice riding on Daddy’s shoulders again today. I’m still loving it! Mommy loves seeing me so happy! As for Daddy, I think he is happy because we are happy. He can’t really see anything and might end up with a couple of bald spots from where I hold on, but he must enjoy it because it is his choice to put me up on his shoulders.
I’m 7 months old! It’s official now; I’m over the hill. I’m am closer to my first birthday than to my actual birthday. It’s all downhill form here.
Look how much I’ve grown. Not only in size but also in ability. I’m rolling over, crawling, sitting, eating solid foods, putting myself to sleep, and am really turning into a little person. I see everything, hear everything, grab everything, try to eat everything, I smile when I see Mommy and Daddy and laugh when they are silly. Even though I always was a good crier, I have distinct cries now that let Mommy and Daddy know when I need a diaper change, when I’m hungry, or just when I need a hug.
There are still so many things out there for me to learn to do and I can’t wait! So far, this has been a very fun adventure!
