Exploring hands

Recently I’ve been very curious of my environment and try to get my hands on everything I can. Of course, that is a good thing. But sometimes my exploring hands can be painful. I often reach up when I’m being nursed and accidentally pinch Mommy in the throat. She then yelps out in pain. A pinch from tiny baby fingers can be quite painful. Some other times, I stretch my hand out even further and then my fingers find something else to hold onto. Not necessarily painful for Mommy, but not an idea situation.

Green food

I’ve loving my feeding time! Food, food, gimme food! I have slightly different facial reactions to the foods I eat, implying preference, but I still eat everything I’m given without much complaint. I’m loving all my veggies. I hear that some kids don’t like to eat their greens, but I like them a lot! They have more flavor than white food, like tofu. That’s pretty bland. Gimme my greens! Look at my big open mouth waiting for the food!

Free photo shoot

A couple weeks ago, Mommy and I went to a free baby photo shoot event nearby. We finally got the pictures from the shoot, and I’ve got to say, they look really good! I especially like the ones with Mommy and me together! I don’t look too shabby on my own either. It being Japan, of course I was lent kawaii outfits for the photo shoot. I’ll be waiting by the phone for the modeling job offers.

Play date

I had my first play date today. I have to admit that I was pretty nervous, but at least it was at my place. My new friend was even more nervous because it was a new place for her. Still, we got along fabulously. We have met before at local baby events and surprisingly live very close to each other.

She is nearly the same age as me, but 2/3 my size. I found out that the last time I was the same weight as she is now was when I was about 2 months old. I feel very big! But although I may be bigger, she is hitting the developmental milestones a lot quicker. She is already crawling and showed me how fun it is to be mobile.

Even though I hear that most babies our age ignore each other when they play, we did not. We were very aware of and interested in each other. Actually, I made her cry by being a little too forward with my approach. I reached out to explore her face and I guess I was too rough. When she started crying I also started crying. All the grownups thought it was the cutest thing, but us babies were not as amused.

We had a great first play date and are sure to have more! It was a lot of fun for our mothers to talk and compare notes. It is not easy being a mother and sometimes you need someone who knows exactly how you feel. We all look forward to our next meeting.

In the meantime I’ll be sure to practice crawling like my new friend showed me.

Hmmm. I’m still working out the mechanics of it. Give me some more time. I’ll get it eventually.

Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween! I hope every has a great Halloween! And if you are able to go trick-or-treating, please be safe. I wasn’t able to go trick-or-treating because it is not very common in Japan neighborhoods, and this year the shopping centers that usually have trick-or-treating events for kids, cancelled them because of the pandemic. But since I can’t eat candy yet anyway, it was okay. I’m looking forward to it at some point, but for this year I was more than happy just to dress up in my Halloween costume.

Look at my awesome costume! Grandma made it for me! She makes costumes for all her grandkids and even made them for her kids way back when they were little. We didn’t give her much heads up notice about the costume but she had it made and delivered to Japan well before Halloween. It was very impressive! Thank you so much, Grandma! I love my costume!

Since I’m not quite sitting securely on my own, our little Halloween costume photo shoot at home took a while because I kept toppling over. Still, it was a lot of fun!

We’ll probably take more photos later because it would be a waste to wear this costume on once. It was also quite warm, so it’s perfect for the coming winter!

Happy Halloween everyone! And may the Force be with you!

Eating shirasu

The kinds of solid foods I’m eating is slowly increasing. Today I ate shirasu, which is boiled immature whitebait fish. They are really tiny fish that you eat whole. Mommy soaked them in water to get some of the salt out of them and the ground them up to make them easy to eat. They didn’t look like fish anymore by the time I ate them, but they sure smelled like them. They were very fishy. I can’t say that I loved my first taste, but food is food and I ate it all up.

Tummy Time on Daddy’s lap

I was sitting on Daddy’s lap while he was sitting on a chair and then I start twisting and squirming and somehow ended up on my tummy. I don’t think it was my intent, but it was surprisingly comfortable. So I just stayed there for a while. I looked so comfortable that Daddy thought he might be able to sing me to sleep. It didn’t work, but it was still comfortable. So Daddy posed for a cute father and son photo.

Explosive hair

My hair is getting really long. What’s impressive is that even though it is long, it still stands up really well. It’s not even on purpose. Daddy just dries my hair and tries to get all of it dry, and it ends up standing up. It’s explosive!

It even lasts until the next morning. Now that is some staying power!
