English Lesson

We had an English lesson today at school and I did very well at finding the animals. Of course, it is not much of a lesson for me because English is one of my first languages, still it is fun!

At the park I ran around saying, “Kabata-sensei, Kabata-sensei”. (My teacher’s name is Kawabata-sensei, but I can’t quite get it right. I’m getting closer. I used to say “Kaba-sensei”. ”Kaba” is hippopotamus in Japanese.). She saw how excited I was to be at the park and asked me what I wanted to do. I told her, “Look for grasshoppers,” in Japanese. Then I held her hand and we looked for grasshoppers. We found a few and I was actually able catch them.

Playing at the park

We had a lot of fun at the park today. We collected leaves. We pretended to be trains. We ran around a lot. And even rolled around on the ground. That’s what you should be doing at the park. We had a great time!

Today at school my teacher was reading a book to some of my classmates and they were pretending to eat the food in the book. Pretending to eat food from books is my thing and I got mad. I told them in Japanese, “No! That’s mine! Don’t eat!” My teacher understood my feelings and figured I might just be feeling left out. So she said, “Shoma, you can eat too,” as she handed me the book. I was so happy and it showed on my face. I started to pretend to eat the food in the book and share with everyone. In the past I might of hit or bitten, but I’m getting better at using my words which makes it so much better for everyone.

Moshi moshi

I got my hands on Mommy’s phone and pretended to talk on it. It was a mess of words that I think sound like a phone call. It all started with “Moshi moshi“.

Moshi moshi. Denwa. Moshi moshi. Denwa. Anata. Tiny. Anata. Papa. Bye bye. Bus. Bye bye. Jiiji. Papa. Tiny. etc.

It’s not that Mommy or Daddy talk that much on the phone. I just feel like that’s what people say on the phone.

Window shopping

Every time we go to the baby store to pick up clothes or essentials, I always plant myself in the toy aisle and sample everything there. I’m pretty good at understanding we are not buying toys, but I do spend a lot of time there and do not want to leave. But after a few time warnings I am ready to leave when it is time to go.

Jam on toast

We went out for breakfast today and I got my own toast and hard-boiled egg. Everything was delicious. After I finished my breakfast I started eyeing Mommy’s breakfast. She was kind enough to share with me, but I wasn’t happy with the portions I was getting. Mommy and Daddy tried to explain that it was Mommy’s food and that she was sharing with me so I should be happy with what I get. I was not happy. I started to throw a tantrum. Daddy took me outside and talked to me. Every time I said an unreasonable “no” without even listening to him he would take a step away from the restaurant. With a lot of to and fro conversation and steps away and towards the restaurant, I finally calmed down and understood what Daddy was saying. We went back into the restaurant and were able to enjoy the rest of our meal.

Mini cream puffs

Daddy thought we all deserved some dessert so he bought mini cream puffs for us. I liked them because not only were they delicious but they were also bite size. I don’t think Mommy and Daddy thought they would be bite size for a toddler like me but I just shoved them right in my mouth in one bite.

Prefectural office and Doctor Yellow

Today on our walk we visited the prefectural office. They had a cycling exhibit and a tea exhibit. Looking at bicycles is not as exciting as looking at trains, but it is better than nothing. The tea exhibit was pretty interesting and I looked at every display.

In my class, there are a lot of us who like vehicles. So you will see a lot of shirts with car, buses, planes and train on them. Coincidentally, two classmates and myself all wore Doctor Yellow Shinkansen socks today.
