Pool day water play

Yet another pool day where I refuse to wear my swimming cap. So I wasn’t allowed into the pool, but I was okay with just playing with the water from the outside. After all we have our wading pool at home that I play in all the time. Maybe that’s why pool day is not as special for me as it is for other kids.

Talking

I’m talking more and more these days. One of the biggest breakthroughs is that I say my own name when I refer to myself instead of just pointing to myself. Actually I say”Maton”. Close enough.

Today one of my teachers asked me if I peed and I responded in Japanese “I didn’t pee”. My teacher didn’t believe be and check my diaper. She saw the blue line that indicates a wet diaper and said, “Look. Blue line. You did pee” to which I responded “Oh my god” and then trotted off. All the teachers within earshot were surprised to hear a two year old say that in perfect English.

Also when walking home with Mommy a car passed us as we were waiting to cross the street and I said “abunai” which means dangerous.

Not ready to go home

There have been days where I’m not ready to go home when Mommy picks me up from school. Some days I need an extra few minutes to hang out in the waiting room to peruse some books before I choose which one to borrow. Other days I throw an outright fit and refuse to even leave the main area of the school. There have been days when Mommy had to wait more than 40 minutes before she practically had to drag me out of school to get me home. This is not something that we want to turn into a routine.

Doing my own thing

There are many times at school when I’m just not as into things as everyone else. I just kind of am there but not necessarily enjoying things as much as everyone else. There are some dancing times when I just don’t feel the vibe. I can be a bit of a wallflower.

However, when we have active play like playing in the park or playing on the gym mats at school, I have a ton of fun with everyone else. Maybe it is because we are not expected to do a particular thing.

When we do individual play or crafts I’m much more comfortable. I think I just march to the beat of my own drum.

Walk to school with Daddy

Some mornings Mommy has a slightly earlier shift so she has to rush off to catch the subway while we are walking to school. So I walk the rest of the way with Daddy. For the most part Daddy carries me, but there is an agreed upon leg where I walk. I like our morning walks to school because no matter what fuss I may have caused in the morning at home, I’m usually better once we are on our way to school. We chat, we sing, we name things that we see, and we just have a nice time strolling to school. It is a very peaceful time for us amidst the tempest of the terrible twos.

Breakfast chair

It is good to have routines but sometimes they have to change. Since we’ve been back from Hawaii I have been insisting on eating breakfast on Daddy’s lap instead of in my high chair. This can be a bit inconvenient for Daddy when he is trying to get ready for work or get me ready for school, but we make it work. He just excuses himself from the chair and I sit there until he gets back.

Power breakfast for busy day at school

I had my usual fruits and yogurt for breakfast but I also had some crab bread. I somehow knew I would need the energy for school.

We did a lot of dancing at school today. Sometimes I sit it out and other times I am really into it. Today I was somewhere in between. I wasn’t super thrilled, but I still was very active.

We also did some arts and crafts. I’m very good at place stickers on things. Today I put eyes on corn.

Visiting Jiiji and Baaba

We visited Jiiji and Baaba for the first time since we got back from Hawaii. It was nice to see them again. As soon as we got to their house I was wandering around, interacting with them, and showing them how much a grew up in Hawaii. Mommy and Daddy shared with them all the things I did in Hawaii and showed them all the pictures.

We took them out to lunch for Jiiji’s birthday, which was last week. It was a shabu-shabu restaurant they had never been to. They really enjoyed it and because it was an all-you-can-eat restaurant they had quite a bit. I ate a bunch and then was getting a bit restless, so I had my own quiet time to allow all the grownups to eat.

After lunch we headed back to Jiiji and Baaba’s house for mor fun.

I had Jiiji take me to see his neighbor’s guppies. I always like to look at them when I visit.

For the most part we just hung out at the house and enjoyed each other’s company.

I was in a very silly mood. Even when we had to head home I thought it was a good chance to try on Daddy’s shoes. They were still just a tiny bit too big for me.

I had such a great time visiting Jiiji and Baaba! I quickly fell asleep on the ride home.

Steak Miya & Potty

We went out to dinner tonight because I again requested to go holoholo bus again and the Steak Miya restaurant was having good deal on beer, so it was a win-win for everyone. Even though the restaurant name is Steak Miya we mainly go for the salad bar. It is really good and fully stocked with all kinds of fixings. I always finish my kids meal but mainly fill up on the salad bar.

The restaurant had a kiddie potty like the one we have at school so I just had to test it out. I still don’t actually use the potty, but I like to sit, wipe, and flush the toilet paper down.
